Ingredients For Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

Domino’s® | Philly Cheesesteak Pizza Review ð?ðð§ð¥© | Peep THIS Out! ð

PIZZA DOUGH: If youre a pizza purist, you can definitely make your own dough. If Im short on time I will use this no rise pizza dough recipe, or even a store bought refrigerated pizza dough. Ive also started making or buying a white whole wheat pizza dough to add a little bit of nutrition to our weekly habit.

PIZZA SAUCE: I think the only point of contention Ive seen with a Philly cheese steak pizza is what sauce is on the Philly cheesesteak pizza. Some like a cheesy alfredo Philly cheese steak pizza sauce, others go with a simple garlic butter. Honestly, I really like marinara sauce. There is so much cheese on the pizza, I dont feel like it needs a cream sauce, and I like the marinara flavor with the steak.

GOAT CHEESE: I use some big dollops of fresh chevre on the pizza because it gives some of that same creaminess you would get from a cream sauce, but with a wonderful tangy flavor. I dont recommend skipping these one, its a MUST!

MOZZARELLA, CHEDDAR, PROVOLONE, AMERICAN: Between the goat cheese, mozzarella, and cheddar, this Philly cheese steak pizza has a good variety of cheese flavors. That said, you can also swap them with your favorite cheesesteak sandwich cheeses.

Maybe sub American cheese for the cheddar , and use provolone instead of mozzarella. You could even go half mozzarella half provolone, or throw in some Swiss as well.

Tips For Perfect Dominos Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

  • The steak can be slightly pink, i.e. medium rare to medium doneness, as it will finish cooking on the pizza.
  • You can prepare your pizza dough in advance and freeze it. Just wrap the risen dough in plastic wrap and place in a resealable plastic bag before freezing. Then place it in the fridge overnight to defrost and let it rest on the counter for an hour to reach room temperature.
  • You can easily reheat at 400° for about 5 minutes, which will give it a crispy crust like freshly made.

What Kind Of Cheese Is On A Philly Steak

In the Philadelphia area, Mozzarella is only used on a pizza steak, a cheese steak made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and a bit of oregano usually on top. Mozzarella has become the cheese of choice on the so-called Philly Cheese Steak. Provolone is more often used on a steak hoagie, as provolone is the cheese used

For provolone, go for a mild or medium profile with a light smoky flavor. The Bread. History. The first cheesesteak was created by a hot dog vendor in Philly who, when tired of consuming his franks for lunch everyday, had the idea to cook up some thinly sliced steak he bought from the local butcher.

A Note On Making Steak For Philly Pizza

Leftover, refrigerated steak is perfect for this recipe because chilled steak is easy to slice.

For replicating the classic Philly steak seasoning taste, marinate your favorite steak recipe in worcestershire sauce with a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. Or just use a little salt and pepper to sear or grill an 8 oz steak to medium rare like I did in the coulotte steak recipe in the tutorial photos.

If youre wondering how to cook steak for pizza recipes, dont forget: the steak will continue cooking in the oven. So even if you prefer a more well done steak, I suggest cooking it on the rare side.

  • Start by chopping up some green bell peppers and onions, then sauté them in a skillet with just a little butter.
  • Unroll some refrigerated pizza dough and cut into mini rectangles.

Ribeye is the steak of choice for Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches. It is well-marbled and tender when cooked. Another cut that we have used with great results is flank steak which is lean but very tender when cut against the grain. You will need a little extra oil on your cooking surface if using flank steak.

After I worked out the crust recipe, I moved on to perfecting my toppings and finding the right balance of flavors. I started by breaking down my ingredients and analyzing how each one fit into the puzzle.

    Ribeye Steak

Ribeye is my favorite cut of steak its tender, juicy and takes on flavor like none other. I sauteed strips of ribeye steak with green peppers, onions, and seasoning so those flavors would blend together and stand on their own.

    Alfredo Sauce

Philly Cheese Steaks dont have tomatoes so using alfredo sauce only seemed right. Its creamy, cheesy and oh so rich! After spreading a generous layer of alfredo I proceeded to pile on my steak mixture.

    Provolone Cheese

As I mentioned before, my favorite cheese steaks are loaded with provolone cheese. I love that provolone is mild yet so flavorful. Plus, the cheese pull is crazy! So, I sprinkled my cheese on top of the steak and watched the magic happen in my oven.

The end result is a beautiful golden crust layered with flavors that have perfectly melted together. I am honestly drooling at the memory of how good each bite was! You absolutely HAVE to make this pizza.

    Does Philly Cheesesteak Have Sauce

For me, the bottom line is an authentic cheesesteak is devoid of sauce unless you are ordering a pizza steak. And thats generally what youll find at any of the Philadelphia cheesesteak meccas such as Pats or Genos in South Philly or Jims Steaks on South Street, a place Im fond of from my days living off of Two

Tips For The Best Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

    • You need to cook the veggies in advance for a few reasons. First of all, this helps them release their moisture and keeps your pizza from getting soggy. You also get a sweeter depth of flavor from the onions than we would if we put them on the pizza raw.
    • Another couple things to prevent a soggy crust are to put a cheese base down on your pizza sauce before any other toppings, and to let all the juices drain off your meat and veggies before adding them to the Philly cheese steak pizza.
    • You can also use leftover cooked sirloin steak on your pizza. Just skip cooking it in the skillet, and add it with the cooked veggies on top of the pizza. This is best with steak that is rare or medium, not well done, since it will cook 10 minutes in the oven. Another great way to use up steak is our leftover steak tacos recipe!

What Sauce Goes With Philly Cheesesteak

Peppers and onions with melted cheese is the only sauce you need. Yeah I like straight sriracha spread liberally on the bread. While it isnt a chipotle mayo sauce, I have been known to put garlic aioli on my cheese steaks. Cant go wrong with more garlic.

Whats On Dominos Philly Cheese Steak

Each sandwich has beautifully sliced portions of steak that are placed onto our tasty bread. Then we add layers of traditional cheese steak vegetables, including fresh onions, green peppers, and, of course, mushrooms. Once the steak slices and vegetables have been placed, its time to add the cheeses.

The crust is stretched thinner than that of a standard Dominos pizza, and the cornmeal cooked into the crust gives it certain crispness. The pieces of pepperoni and wads of sausage the company suggests as toppings are freakishly large. The slices are so big you can fold them, which, it seems, is the Brooklyn-y part.

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK PIZZA WITH AN EASY WHITE SAUCE | COOK WITH ME

Its honestly way easier to make a Philly Cheesesteak at home than what you might think.

In a large skillet, heat olive oil with onions. You want to sautee them on medium low heat until they become soft and translucent. I choose to do sliced onion, but you can totally dice them up as well!

Once the onions have sauteed add in the mushrooms. Be sure to season both the onions and mushrooms with salt. This helps to bring the moisture out of them and become soft. Not to mention, they need the flavor.

Once the mushrooms have broken down and soft add in the shaved steak along with 2-3 tablespoons of your favorite steak seasoning. Ive been obsessed with our local butchers steak seasoning as well as the Texas Inspired Seasoning that I pick up at Kroger.

Cook the steak until its cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Make sure to toss the steak around in the onions and mushrooms.

Grab your hoagie buns and place mayo on both sides of the bread. Put as much or as little on as youd like. Jay likes his with light mayo while I prefer mine to have mayo on both sides of the bread, its totally your call.

Place steak on top of the bottom roll and the provolone cheese on top. Place in an air fryer on 350° to toast the bread and melt the cheese. In the air fryer its about 1-2 minutes and for the oven expect 5-8 minutes.

Serve with homemade french fries, chips or if on a keto or low carb diet I serve mine over a bed of lettuce!

    Who Invented The Cheesesteak

While different parts of the cheesesteaks history have been debated over the years, the original origin story is something Philadelphians agree on. The story begins one afternoon in 1930, when a hot dog vendor named Pat Olivieri decided to switch up his regular lunch routine.

Olivieri ordered some thinly sliced ribeye steak from a local butcher and cooked the steak on his hot dog grill. He put the meat on an Italian roll and added some onions. One of Olivieris regulars, a cab driver, stopped by for his daily hot dog and noticed Olivieris sandwich. He asked Olivieri to make him one, and the rest is history.

Word of mouth spread, and soon the cab driver and other locals were lining up daily for Olivieris steak sandwich. Eventually, Olivieri gave up the hot dog cart and opened his own restaurantPats King of Steakswhere the sandwich continued to grow in popularity. Today, the stand draws visitors from around the world, all eager to try one of our countrys most famous dishes.

Something you might notice about this tale is that the original cheesesteak wasnt made with cheese at all. The first person to add cheese is still a hotly debated topic . However, the sandwich itself is Olivieris creationone that is still proudly carried on by his family today.

This humble sandwich combines classic Italian and American flavors for a mashup thats hearty, heartwarming, and unique to Philadelphia.

How To Make Dominos Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

Start by making the pizza dough .

While the dough rising, prepare the topping/sauce. Slice the steak into strips about 1/8-inch wide. Then sauté over medium-high heat until slightly browned and juicy with most of the pink color gone:

Remove the meat from the pan. Then add the onions, green peppers and mushrooms . Sauté for a few minutes until slightly softened with the edges of the onions starting to brown or caramelize. Remember, they will cook a bit more in the oven, just like the steak.

Now youre ready to assemble the pizza. Preheat your oven to 450°F and grab a pizza pan or large baking sheet. Once the dough has doubled in volume, punch it down. Next, stretch it out on the pan to about 12-14 inches in diameter. Brush with oil and poke all over with a fork:

Last but not least, sprinkle the American and provolone cheeses evenly across the dough. Then sprinkle the steak and veggies on top. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the cheeses are melted and the crust is golden around the edges:
