How Does The Price Of A Tomahawk Steak Compare To A Normal Ribeye
How much you are paying for your Tomahawk Steaks depends on the quality of the beef you are buying and who you are getting it from.
However, you should expect to pay up to three times more than your normal bone-in Ribeye.
The Chicago Steak Company is selling two USDA Prime dry-aged Tomahawk Ribeyes for $239.95 when you can get four USDA Prime dry-aged Bone-in Ribeyes for $274.95.
DeBragga will sell you a pair of dry-aged Prime Tomahawk steaks for $285.00, which is more than their Culinary Olympics winning 24oz Miyazaki Wagyu Ribeye.
While it might seem like that is a reasonable increase when you are moving from a 24-ounce Ribeye to a 40-ounce Tomahawk, it is essential to bear in mind that a lot of that weight is going to be bone and not meat.
You can expect to spend an average of about $100 on a quality Tomahawk Steak, and the reality is that around $50 to $80 of that is paying for a considerable length of bone and a more Instagram ready steak.
What Is Steak Tomahawk
The tomahawk steak is essentially a ribeye beef steak specifically cut with at least five inches of rib bone left intact. The extra-long, french trimmed bone utilizes the same culinary technique that shapes a rack of lamb. It can also be referred to as a tomahawk chop, bone-in ribeye, and cote du boeuf.

What Is A Tomahawk Steak

A Tomahawk Steak is really just a bone-in Ribeye, taken from the rib section of the steer.
The butcher leaves the large rib bone attached, protruding between 10 and 20 inches from the steak. Rather like a big meat lollipop.
The Ribeye steak is cut from the longissimus dorsi, one of two long muscles that run under a beef cows ribs.
This particular set of muscles doesnt see much use during the day-to-day life of cattle, so it stays tender. This tenderness, along with their incredible marbling, contributes to the popularity of Ribeye steaks.

Things A West Coaster Learned On A First Visit To Stew Leonards Slideshow
Stew Leonards initially started as a dairy farm back in the 1920s. Stew Leonard Sr. had to relocate his Norwalk-based Clover Farms Dairy when the new Route 7 highway was built. He promised the owner of the land he wanted to buy that hed build a farm there for her sheep and even added goats, ducks, and chickens for her, too. Since then the animal farm has become an iconic part of the Stew Leonards experience.
Forget lining up for hours in New York City. Stew Leonards has come up with its own range of cookie dough treats that have been equally popular. With flavors like Caramel Sea Salt and Birthday Cake, theyre indulgently sweet and addictively satisfying. Youll know you shouldnt really be eating as much as you will, but that wont stop you.
I have an unhealthy obsession with lobster rolls, which is normally kept in check by the fact that I cant financially afford to eat too many of them. So you can understand my incredible joy when discovering large, meaty, fresh lobster rolls for less than $10. Filled with large chunks of freshly seasoned lobster from Maine, on soft pillows of bread these bad boys are done perfectly, and youll never get this much lobster for that price. They sell more than $10,000 worth of them each week in one store alone, and its a Stew Leonards secret buy that I would return just to feast on.
Tomahawk Steak Vs Ribeye
Now that weve discussed both steaks in-depth, its time to compare these great steaks. Unfortunately, most people get ribeye and Tomahawk steaks confused.
This is understandable since they are technically the same cut of steak.
Both Tomahawk and ribeye steaks come from the rib portion. However, the easiest way to distinguish the two is the Frenched bone sticking out of the Tomahawk steak.
You can cook both steaks on your portable pellet grill, but Tomahawk steaks need to be reverse grilled. In addition to this, ribeye steaks taste better when seared in a skillet or cooked in the oven.
Due to their bone, Tomahawk steak will take longer to cook than ribeye. The flavor of both steaks is relatively the same.
However, because Tomahawk steaks cook slower, they will still be juicy if you leave them on the grill for an extra 1-2 minutes.
Many individuals struggle to cook tomahawk steak evenly because it is so big. Nevertheless, the Tomahawk steak retains its shape better and creates a memorable presentation.
Many have trouble cooking the Tomahawk steak evenly because of its large size.
On the other hand, ribeye steaks can be evenly browned on all sides. Therefore, most people can cook them without any issues.
Tomahawk steaks are also much more expensive than ribeye steaks.

What Is Rib Eye Steak
Just because a Tomahawk steak is larger than its counterparts does not mean you should underestimate a ribeye steak.
Ribeye steaks are one of the most decadent steaks you can buy. It is also one of the worlds most popular steaks.
Ribeye steaks are carved from the rib portion of the animal. Specifically, it is cut from the sixth to the twelfth ribs.
The ribeye is carved from the longissimus dorsi muscle or the primal rib. This muscle also includes the spinalis and complexus muscles.
As you will notice, the ribeye muscles become less densely packed together and fattier on the outer sections of the steak. Ribeye steaks also contain several fat pockets between the meat.
Ribeye steaks contain a vast amount of intramuscular fat, making them juicy. Ribeye steaks can be labeled as scotch fillet, cowboy steak, deboned tomahawk steak, and Delmonico steak.
Ribeye steak can also be marketed as a beautiful steak because of its astonishing appearance.
Ribeye steaks are boneless. However, nations such as New Zealand and Australia serve ribeye steaks with a bone.
Most ribeye steaks are 3/4-1-inch in thickness. They can range from 8 ounces to 2 pounds.
Ribeye steak is loaded with flavor. This is because the muscle its carved from is barely used. Therefore, it is incredibly tender.
The ribeyes juiciness is because of its large amount of marbling. The marbling melts as the steak is seared, creating a juicy steak without an excessively chewy texture.
