Salisbury Steak Mashed Potatoes And Peas

Chicken Steak Recipe| Chicken Steak with Creamy Mashed potato & gravey |By Iqra kitchen

I felt like making Salisbury Steak week before last. So guess what? I did! You can find out what sparked the craving here.

I was going for the true TV dinner/school lunch effect hereand it wound up being really yummy! My kids did wind up scraping off the big chunks of onions, so if you have onion-sensitive humans in your home, dice them finely instead.

I went for high impact with the way this one looked, but I provide you a couple of options if you dont need the high-gloss look of the gravy.

Lets make it, baby!

Start by halving an onion and slicing it really thin. I wanted to go heavy on the onions here, but you can both decrease the quantity an/or finely mince them if you prefer that approach. Set the onions aside.

Throw some ground beef into a bowl and add 1/2 cup of seasoned breadcrumbs.

Next, add in some dry mustard

Some beef base or crumbled beef bouillon

And some salt and pepper.

Use a rubber spatula to smush the mixture together until its all combined

Then take out a little at a time and roll it into a cylinder. I realize this looks grody.

Oh, and if you could possibly mix all the ingredients together a little better than I did, thatd be GRITE.

From there, form it into oval patties and use your pinkie to make little indentations that sort of kind of make it look like a steak, then fry the steaks in a little bit of butter and oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside.

Storage And Reheating Instructions:

Mashed potatoes are best when fresh. However, you can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat single serving-size portions in the microwave in 30 second increments until warmed through.

How To Make Date Night Steak And Mashed Potatoes:

  • Potato Recipe: Place the potatoes in a medium saucepan, cover them with water, and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook the potatoes for 15 minutes until tender when pierced with a fork. Drain the pot of water and return the potatoes to the pot.
  • Using a potato masher or a large fork, slightly mash the potatoes. Add the milk, 1½ teaspoons of garlic powder, and the butter, mashing and mixing to combine. Season steak with salt and pepper, to taste. Cover to keep warm and set aside.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Pat the steaks dry with a paper towel and season both sides with salt and pepper, to taste, and the remaining ½ teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Add the vegetable oil to the skillet. If the skillet is hot enough the oil should sizzle a little. If it doesnt sizzle, its a sign the skillet isnt hot enough. Wait 30 seconds to 1 minute, watching the oil until its surface starts to shimmer, then add the steaks to the hot pan. Cook the steaks, without moving them, for 4 to 5 minutes. Using a spatula, flip the steaks and cook for 2 to 3 minutes more until the edges turn brown. To test for doneness for a medium steak*, press the meat with a pair of tongsit should be as tender as pressing your finger to your chin. Transfer the steaks to a cutting board to let the steak rest for a few minutes.
  • Place each steak on a plate and add a spoonful of mashed potatoes on the side.

How To Cook Steak On A Stovetop

Lets start with this recipe by making the mashed potatoes. Boil your potato halves in a quart of water for 15 minutes. Do note that you have to add a teaspoon of salt into the water beforehand! Drain the water using a colander once finished, then, meanwhile, add some butter into the still hot cooking pot. Put the potato back in the pot and mash, using a potato masher or a fork. Half a cup of creamy evaporated milk goes in next continue mashing your potatoes until they smoothen. After seasoning with salt and pepper, you can now set it aside.

The next step would be to make the gravy. Melt butter in a saucepan and add Knorr Beef Cube for that extra flavor. Stir, then add all-purpose flour, and for about 5 to 7 minutes, stir some more. Add between ¾ to 1 cup of water into the saucepan, and continue to stir until youve blended all your ingredients together well. Feel free, however, to add as much water as necessary to make the consistency as thin or thick as you like! Season with salt and ground black pepper before setting it aside.

Now, its time to cook the actual steak! Heat a cast iron pan, then add cooking oil and butter. Once youve melted your butter, put the steak you prepared prior into the pan, and sear for about 2 minutes. Add the mix of rosemary and thyme to the oil so that the herbs flavor and aroma automatically seep in. That fragrant combination will make your steak even more appealing to all your other senses!

    Chopped Steak On Mashed Potatoes

    10/01/2012 by steve

So this really isnt steak, and nothing is chopped but it wouldnt sound as good if it was called Ground Beef on Mashed Potatoes now, would it?

I grew up in Long Beach, California during the 60s. When I was in elementary school, the schools would have actual chefs that would prepare the lunch meals in the kitchen they werent just boxed, pre-packaged lunches. The Sunday paper would publish the weekly menus and my sister and I would always look for Chopped Steak on Mashed Potatoes.

Several years later, the paper published the actual recipes that were used to prepare these lunches, and so I had to include this one here. So, once again, its really just ground beef in gravy, but its simple, quick and easy and the kids love it!

How To Cook Steak: Tips And Tricks

Learning how to properly prepare steak is an essential for even the most novice of home cooks. Making your own steak at home not only saves you the money you would spend if you had to go out to a fancy restaurant to eat it. It makes your dish all the more fulfilling, knowing you put in the time and effort to make it just the way you and your loved ones enjoy it.

When learning how to cook steak on a stovetop, here are some handy tips to keep in mind! Whether youre a first time chef or a seasoned pro, knowing these tricks will make your cooking experience all the more convenient.

    Prep your steak beforehand.

Like in any other recipe that teaches you how to cook steak, one of the most important lessons to learn is to prep it before cooking. At least an hour before cooking, take your steak out of the fridge. Cooking your steak while still cold makes it a lot harder to ensure youve cooked it all the way through. Its also important that you blot your steak with a paper towel in order to gather up any excess moisture. If you sear your steak on the pan while its too moist, then the browning and caramelization becomes even more difficult.

Dont forget to season your T-bone steak with salt and pepper, too!

    Know what doneness youre after.

Its important to note also that once you remove your steaks from the pan, the residual heat allows them to cook for up to 5 degrees more. Keep that in mind when you want to strike that balance between, for instance, medium rare and medium!
