Omaha Steaks Got In Trouble For Violating Telemarketing Laws
Perhaps you’ve gotten a call or two from a robocaller at Omaha Steaks trying to sell us on their holiday gift box special that’s stuffed to the brim with gourmet hamburgers and tri-tips galore. Well, in 2014, one man in Gresham, Oregon, had received just one call too many, as The Oregonian reported.
According to The Oregonian, Michael Hetherington received 10 unwarranted calls to his cell phone from the company over the course of just a little over a month in 2013. Hetherington did some research on laws surrounding telemarketing and realized that the company could be breaching the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991. The act essentially states that companies aren’t allowed to call customers without their permission nor can they use automated programs to dial up random numbers with added emphasis in regards to protecting cell phone numbers. This is exactly what Omaha Steaks was doing when they called Hetherington those 10 times and he filed a lawsuit against them in 2014.
The lawsuit grew into a wider class action suit and was eventually settled about two years later in 2016, when the company had to shell out $5 million to customers they’d called in violation of the TCPA. According to Top Class Actions, a website investigating various class action suits across the country, customers began receiving checks from Omaha Steaks for around $40 in December 2016.
Does Butcherbox Or Omaha Steaks Have A Better Company Reputation

Keeping seafood clean and uncontaminated is an ordeal all its own if improperly transported, stored and prepared. Omaha Steaks pride themselves on quality, but even the most prestigious of food vendors can fall short with their seafood, and these Live Manila Clams are no exception.
Eager to expand into the seafood market, this famous steak company actually created their very own brand called World Port Seafood. While there may be some top-tier products available through World Port Seafood, this live clam plate is not one of them. Costing customers $200 per package, this seafood bundle sat with just one sorry review star on the website at time of publishing. We’re not sure if it’s the price that has pushed patrons away or the raw shellfish health facts that might prevent customers from enjoying these clams fresh that does this dish in. Either way, we’re sure this may be one of Omaha Steaks’ worst options.
Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignons
Since we went with the filet mignon, we thought, âWhy not kick it up a notch?â
So we did by ordering the bacon-wrapped ones! Omaha Steaks also ships these pieces of beef the same way so we were sure quality wasnât an issue.
The preparation we followed was mostly the same too. Just season it right and cook it to your preferred doneness!
Having the properly prepared steak was already a nice treat the first time, but we found that biting into the piece of filet wrapped with crispy bacon was better! The tasty bacon added another dimension of texture and flavor!
Hint: The way itâs packaged is also perfect to prepare via sous vide if thatâs what you want to go for.

Salmonella: Omaha Steaks Recalls Stuffed Chicken Breasts
In a follow-up to the salmonella outbreak in Minnesota and Wisconsin and the massive recall by Barber Foods, Omaha Steaks announced Monday the recall of stuffed chicken breast products manufactured by Barber Foods, an AdvancePierre Foods company, packed on five dates in 2015 for potential Salmonella contamination. A small amount of the product was sold under the Omaha Steaks label and bears the establishment#P-4230A. No other Omaha Steaks chicken products are included in this recall.
Products involved in the recall and their date code, which can be found on the product label, include:
- Chicken Cordon Bleu date code ECREK
- Chicken Kiev date codes EIBOK and ECBIK
- Breast of Chicken with Broccoli & Cheese date codes ECEHK and ECEOK
The company has notified customers who have purchased these products or may have received these products as gifts. Omaha Steaks is working diligently to eliminate any possible risk to consumers and is working in conjunction with the USDA to ensure the publics safety. If you identify any of these products in your freezer, please discard them immediately.
