How To Make Philly Cheese Steak Pizza:

Marco’s Pizza® Philly Cheesesteak Pizza Review! ð§ð¥©ð? | theendorsement

The dough for this pizza comes together fairly quickly with a mix of cream cheese, mozzarella, egg, and almond flour.

Roll it out between some parchment paper and bake it for about 10 minutes to let the crust firm up a bit.

When its time to top the pizza, youll want to cook up some thinly sliced steak. I used ribeye, but you can use a cheaper cut if you prefer.

Cook the steak until its just browned on the outside. Its going in the oven too, so you dont want to turn it into leather.

After the steak is browned, toss some onions and peppers in the hot skillet and let those soften and brown a bit.

For the sauce, Im using cream cheese. Just plain old cream cheese. Its creamy, rich, and perfect for this!! Have faith.

Pile on the steak, veggies, and a little more cheese. Shredded provolone is good, if you can find it. Mozzarella works well too.

Pop this back in the oven for another 10 minutes or so to melt the cheese and finish off the crust and then its time to dig in!

What Cut Of Meat Is Best For Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

While ribeye is the traditional cut of beef for Philly Cheese Steak, I like to use flank steak in this pizza recipe because it has the perfect amount of fat/marbling to emerge wonderfully juicy and flavorful and is less expensive. The flank steak emerges buttery tender by slicing it against the grain and marinating it.

Can You Freeze Cheesesteak Pizza

Yes, you can freeze Philly Cheese Steak Pizza but be aware the bell peppers become a softer, funny texture. I recommend removing the bell pepper and mushrooms before freezing.

To freeze:

  • Bake pizza according to directions.
  • Let pizza cool completely to room temperature.
  • Add pizza slices to a large freezer safe and lay flat to freeze or wrap entire pizza a few times in plastic wrap then in foil.
  • When ready to eat, bake at 450 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until heated through.
  • How To Make Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

Step 1: marinate steak. Marinating the steak is essential because it is where the characteristic flavor comes from and it tenderizes the beef. Our marinade consists of a simple mixture Italian dressing, Worcestershire, garlic and red pepper flakes.

Step 2: slice beef thinly. You want to slice the steak as thinly as possible. You can also ask your butcher to do this for you on their meat slicer or here are some tips:

    • sharpen your knife before slicing the beef
    • freeze your beef for 60 minutes to make it easier to slice thinly
    • slice your beef as thinly as possible, 1/8 thickness or less
    • slice your beef across the grain
    • make sure your skillet is smoking hot before adding your beef so it will sear on the outside and remain tender on the inside

Step 3: saute onions and steak. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium high heat in a large skillet. Add onions and saute for 3 minutes. Add steak with marinade to the skillet and let cook on one side without disturbing, then proceed to saute for 2 minutes or until meat is barely browned. You dont want to overcook your steak or it wont be as tender. Keep in mind the steak will continue to cook in the oven.

Step 4: add toppings. Spread Alfredo sauce evenly over the pizza dough followed by mozzarella cheese, steak and onions, green peppers, and mushrooms and one more cup cheese.

Step 5: bake pizza. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until crust is golden and cheese is melted. I then like to broil for a couple minutes to toast the cheese.

    The Perfect Pizza Crust

In constructing the dough for this recipe, I wanted to create a crust that would remind me of the familiar roll that serves as the vehicle for my beloved sandwich. I needed something light, yet chewy and substantial enough to withstand the weight of all that steak and cheese.

If you havent attempted to make pizza crust before it can be a bit intimidating. But, Im here to preach that it is beyond worth the trouble. Heres a few tips to get you started:

Give the Dough Sufficient Time to Rise

The time your dough spends rising is time spent developing flavor and texture. Rushing the process will only result in a dull dough that wont properly rise during cooking. Be patient.

    Flavor Your Dough

This dough recipe is simple but that doesnt mean you cant jazz it up. I love adding a couple dashes of seasoning to create dimension. Try onion powder, garlic powder or dried oregano! Add in your seasoning during the stretching process.

    How to Stretch the Dough

Dont be stingy with the flour! Coat your surface heavily and add more as needed. Gently use a floured rolling pin to roll out your dough. Then, use you hands to gently work your dough to get your desired shape.

    Make Ahead of Time

If you find yourself wanting to make pizza but dont always have the time I would suggest making your dough ahead of time.

To thaw, place the pizza dough in the refrigerator overnight and roll it out when youre ready!

What Kind Of Meat Do You Use For Philly Cheese Steak

Ribeye is the steak of choice for Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches. It is well-marbled and tender when cooked. Another cut that we have used with great results is flank steak which is lean but very tender when cut against the grain. You will need a little extra oil on your cooking surface if using flank steak.

    Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

Ive never attempted to make a cheese steak at home but for some reason, I recently had the urge to give it a shot. But in very Jocelyn-like fashion, I had to take this classic and turn it on its head.

So, I started dreaming up delicious twists for this indulgent meal. I landed on creating this epic pizza loaded with all things Philly Cheese Steak inspired!

Helpful Tools For Making Cheesesteak Pizza

Philly Cheese Steak Pizza Recipe: How to Make It
    • Pizza Stone: The crust begins cooking/searing immediately when dough is placed on the hot stone, which results in a beautify crispy crust on the bottom thats still soft and chewy in the middle AKA perfection.
    • Instant read thermometer: allows you to make sure the water is in that tight range of temperature needed to activate yeast. This way you know that if the yeast doesnt activate then its not the water its the yeast and you dont waste your time trying to get the water right. It also gives you the peace of mind that once the water is in the right range, youre guaranteed perfect pizza dough.
    • Stand mixer: I use my stand mixer because it saves time, elbow grease and it keeps my hands from getting gooey but its not 100% necessary the dough will just take a few more minutes and elbow grease without one.
    • Cheese grater: I use this kitchen tool constantly because FRESHLY grated cheese as opposed to bagged shredded cheese is always the way to go.
    • Cast iron skillet: A quality cast iron skillet is a must in your cooking arsenal! It is perfect for searing and creating a deeply golden exterior on everything from chicken, to roast, to pork and seamlessly transitions from the stove to the oven. I love my super high quality Staub and Le Creuset. You can also go with a more economical, trusty skillet like this one which also works very well but it will need to be seasoned and always rubbed with vegetable oil after using.

The Best Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

Now, if youve never had the pleasure of wolfing down one of these gorgeously greasy gifts to the earth, youre missing out. How can I preach about Philly Cheese Steaks if I have never been to Philadelphia? Easily.

I have had a great time trying Philly Cheese Steaks everywhere from my hometown Chicago to New York. Just thinking about the intoxicating aroma of the tender thinly sliced steak with sauteed onions and green peppers topped with melted provolone cheese sends chills up and down my spine.

How To Make Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

After I worked out the crust recipe, I moved on to perfecting my toppings and finding the right balance of flavors. I started by breaking down my ingredients and analyzing how each one fit into the puzzle.

    Ribeye Steak

Ribeye is my favorite cut of steak its tender, juicy and takes on flavor like none other. I sauteed strips of ribeye steak with green peppers, onions, and seasoning so those flavors would blend together and stand on their own.

    Alfredo Sauce

Philly Cheese Steaks dont have tomatoes so using alfredo sauce only seemed right. Its creamy, cheesy and oh so rich! After spreading a generous layer of alfredo I proceeded to pile on my steak mixture.

    Provolone Cheese

As I mentioned before, my favorite cheese steaks are loaded with provolone cheese. I love that provolone is mild yet so flavorful. Plus, the cheese pull is crazy! So, I sprinkled my cheese on top of the steak and watched the magic happen in my oven.

The end result is a beautiful golden crust layered with flavors that have perfectly melted together. I am honestly drooling at the memory of how good each bite was! You absolutely HAVE to make this pizza.

    Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

Here is an honest, simple review of my experience with the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza, Deep Crust from Pizza Hut.

Im a big fan of steak, has to be rare or medium rare at least. Additions must include salt and pepper seasoning with vinegars and hot mustard and the cuts have to he premium or thick at least. I ordered mine pizza up north, near Manchester and the results were as follows:

I had my socks knocked off. The pizza was light, thick, crispy and flavoursome. The Steak was thick, juicy, moist, tender and beefy. The onion, Philadelphia cheese and tomatoes were a combination from heaven.

Ive never had anything like this outside of New York / Brooklyn.Well done Pizza Hut!
