Once you have a written copy of the contract, you still have a 10-day cooling-off period to cancel a contract, for the restricted products or services, for any reason.

If the contract is void and you are charged penalties or fees from third parties the business is required to reimburse you for those charges.

Update: Many folks have pointed out that there are some quality, ethical meat salesmen that sell meat door to door. I actually have some friends of mine that are very happy with the meat they recently got from a meat salesman that came by in a MARKED, refrigerated truck.
Another alternative is just getting the meat on the internet. That is pretty much how everything is sold these days.
So, I think this falls under the same rules as just about everything else. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

That’s what Steve Jewell called the steaks and chops he was offered recently by a salesman going door-to-door in his Minneapolis neighborhood. The frozen, vacuum-packed meat came in an unlabeled box. The salesman said he was at the end of his shift, so he was offering the meat at cost.
Jewell passed on the deal. “I don’t want a ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy when I’m buying meat,” he said. “I don’t care how cheap it is.”
Still, he wonders where the meat came from.
He’s not the only one.
While not as common as magazine, candy or firewood hawkers, door-to-door meat salesmen have been ringing doorbells — and raising eyebrows — for many years, said Dave Read, director of dairy and food inspection at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture . As the weather heats up, Twin Cities residents can expect to see more meat vendors plying the streets.
That has Read and other food safety experts concerned that the promise of bargain-priced meats may to be too tempting to resist.
Established door-to-door sellers, such as Schwan’s and the Iowa Steak Company, are licensed, inspected and clearly identifiable. But many others, who may be unlicensed, are selling unmarked meat from the back of a pickup truck. They’re pitching rock-bottom prices, but lingering questions about the source, quality and safety of the meat they’re offering remain.
These sellers often can be identified by the urgency in their pitch, said Read.

GREENSBORO, NC We all know what it means when we hear the chime of an ice cream truck rolling through the neighborhood. You can get ice cold treats on the cheap! But, other kinds of trucks and vans make their way into your neighborhood as well.
People go door to door claiming they can pave your driveway, fix your roof or sell you something for a special price. It happens all the time. They come to you unexpectedly, so, we decided to go to them.
Back in March of 2018, Chris Jacobs contacted our station. He said his 76-year-old mother purchased a box of meat from a company going door to door. Chris and his mother tell 2 Wants to Know, the two salespeople arrived in a white van, claiming to be with Steaks Express. The salespeople sold the elderly woman a box of meat, charged her $211 and allegedly told her not to make the check out to anyone.
When Chriss mother told him what happened, he said he got suspicious and called the number listed on a flyer that was left. No one answered. So, Chris put a stop payment on the check and called 2 Wants to Know.
We checked out the company online and found three different numbers for Steaks Express and the companys owner, Thomas Cassano. We called all three. Two were out of service and the third didnt give us the option to leave a voicemail.
We went to the Better Business Bureau Serving Central NC and told the President/CEO, Kevin Hinterberger, the story.
So far, the company has also not returned our calls.

I really dont know what I would buy from a traveling salesperson knocking on my door. People used to sell encyclopedias or insurance policies door-to-door when I was a kid. But now we have the internet where you can find such information yourself.
The last thing I would do is buy meat from a complete stranger knocking on my door. Perhaps this was a normal thing to do in 1951, but it is 2021.
However, Americans are more trusting than I believed.
